Cannon’s Blackthorn Restaurant & Bar emerged from the Olde Blackthorn Inn that first opened its doors in 1926 under various names. The Olde Blackthorn Inn got its name from a Blackthorn stick handed down from the proprietor’s grandfather, Michael (Mici Tom) Cannon hence the name Cannon’s Blackthorn. Cannon’s Blackthorn has Two fireplaces, great food and beverage and a warm and friendly atmosphere. The décor is fittingly Irish with hand crafted furniture imported directly from Ireland there are five snugs(booths) that give an air of privacy. The history of the snug dates back to when women weren’t allowed into bars known as public houses in Ireland. They were ushered into privately built rooms, out of the glaring eyes of the male patrons. The snug had a sliding hatch door used to pass the beverages through secretly. The beverage island behind the bar known as the back bar was salvaged from the old Saratoga Hotel and installed in 1926 when the bar first opened, and again it was salvaged from the Olde Blackthorn Inn and restored to its present condition. Sunday in Cannon’s Blackthorn is Irish day with fireside sessions featuring traditional Irish music and song and all musicians are welcome to sit in.
Open Monday to Thursday 4pm-4am, Friday and Saturday 11.30am-4am and Sunday 12pm-4am.
