[tweetmeme]Fans of that pinnacle of Sunday night television viewing — we’re talking, of course, about MTV’s late, lamented “120 Minutes” — would be advised to get to Philadelphia this weekend, where the Philly Music Video Fest will close with a salute to the program featuring highlights from the show, a special pre-recorded intro from creator/host Dave Kendall and more.
Set for Sunday night — naturally — at PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., “Backwards Walk Into the Future: A Tribute to 120 Minutes” will be hosted by our friend Chris Cummins, aka @bionicbigfoot, the Philadelphia-based writer behind “What’s Dave Kendall Wearing?”
Writing in Geekadelphia, Cummins describes the event:
”This will be a fast-paced salute to MTV’s long-running alternative music series, which was the first place to break such acts as The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Church and countless other acts in the United States. As well as featuring plenty of highlights from the show, a special introduction by longtime host Dave Kendall (which was recorded in his now-home of Thailand and sent over especially for the event), a guess the 120 Minutes lyrics contest from music historian Bill Zanowitz, and a history of the show, the event will feature a few surprises that will take attendees down memory lane to a simpler time when staying up late to hear the newest songs was a welcome rite of passage.”
The tribute is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10.
