[tweetmeme]While The Jesus and Mary Chain are busy this year looking back on their debut Psychocandy as it marks its 30th anniversary, frontman Jim Reid is also looking forward, vowing to complete the new album that he and his brother William have been working on since reuniting in 2007.
In a new interview with the NME, Jim Reid said he and his brother have meant to record a new album since first reuniting, but that when they tried, “there was the usual slaps and scratches between my brother and myself. ‘I wanna do it here’ and ‘I don’t’ and then it was all ‘Fuck you’ and swinging at each other. The usual shit basically.”
Yet following the band’s Psychocandy tour, which began last fall in Europe and comes to the U.S. this spring, things have improved. And now Reid is all but promising
the record will be completed.
“We are kind of coming round to being in agreement, which is a bit weird for us. There will be an album — we will get it together. I’m more convinced now than I ever have been that there will be a new Mary Chain album.”
Since reuniting, the Mary Chain has release one song, “All Things Must Pass,” which was included on the soundtrack to the television series “Heroes” — and which you can stream below. Prior to that, the band’s last album was Munki, released in 1998 on Sub Pop Records.
