Midnight Oil may move some North American shows to larger venues after tour sells out

Published On: Feb 27,2017 07:27:50 PM

[tweetmeme]Following last week’s quick sellout of the North American leg of Midnight Oil’s reunion tour, the band today announced that discussions are underway to “possibly shift some North American shows to larger rooms,” as well as add more dates in Australia and elsewhere in the world.

According to a statement posted on the Oils’ website, more than 200,000 tickets were sold “in just the first few days” to the band’s worldwide reunion tour, leaving all 14 North American concerts sold out, along with many others around the globe, including dates in London and Paris.

Fans in the U.S. and Canada have been frustrated both by their inability to get tickets to the band’s reunion tour. as well as those seats’ immediate appearance on ticket-scalping websites.

The Oils, in their statement, caution fans against buying seats from ticket resellers, particularly with new shows in the offing: “So anyone who buys tickets from a reseller over the coming weeks could well end up regretting that choice as more legitimate tickets may be released.”

The band tells its fans:

“Fans everywhere are warned NOT to buy tickets from reseller sites. Such unofficial sites may currently be legal but they typically charge vastly inflated prices and sometimes even offer fake tickets. Midnight Oil is well aware of the problems caused by automated ticket buying around the world and the band is as frustrated as its fans are by this ticket scalping. It may be legal and impossible to stop in many places but it is clearly a big problem for both fans and artists on all ‘high demand’ shows these days.”

No further details were offered about the plan to move some North American dates to larger venues, or how that will affect those who already purchased tickets to concerts planned at the existing locations. Most of the North American shows currently are booked at theaters in the 1,000-seat to 2,000-seat range.

In Australia, with at least eight shows already sold out, and more expected to, the Oils say they are “moving quickly” to announce extra concerts in Sydney and Melbourne in November; details of those dates are expected to be announced within 48 hours via the band’s website and Facebook page.

Additionally, the band says, “Further international dates are also under consideration to allow more people around the world to be a part of this special tour.”
