[tweetmeme]The Pixies this morning announced that, in addition to a handful of recently unveiled festival dates, the band will stage its own North American tour this spring, unveiling 12 non-festival shows in May with a promise that “more dates will be announced shortly, too.”
On the festival front, the band is set to play Atlanta’s Shaky Knees on May 8, Big Guava in Tampa, Fla., on May 9, Boston Calling on May 24 and the Amnesia Festival in Montbello, Quebec, sometime between June 18 and 21. Between those dates, they’ll play a dozen shows, beginning May 5 in New Orleans through May 28 in Brooklyn.
A fan-only pre-sale begins 9 a.m. EST Wednesday, with the general on-sale set for Friday. Pre-sale links at pixiesmusic.com.
According to the band’s website, the spring tour will see the debut of new music:
The tour will also set the stage for the debut of some brand-new Pixies songs, written and arranged just in the past few months. For these dates, Pixies — Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering — will once again be joined by touring bassist Paz Lenchantin, who has been playing with the band since January, 2014. All headline shows will feature a new and more varied set packed with songs from the entire Pixies catalogue, full of distortion howls and all the vivid dissonance a Pixies fan would expect — all performed on a sparse yet stunning stage.
