[tweetmeme]The Cure appears poised to celebrate this year’s edition of Record Store Day with vinyl picture-disc reissues of 2001’s Greatest Hits and a standalone release of the Acoustic Hits set that was included as a bonus disc in early pressings of the CD version of that best-of set.
As Chain of Flowers notes on Twitter, product listings for the two releases appeared on an Universal Music’s Italian site over the weekend, showing both as double-LP vinyl picture discs tagged as “RSD 2017” releases — and due out April 21, the day before Record Store Day.
The Greatest Hits set was labeled specifically as being remastered.
No formal announcement has been made of any Cure-related Record Store Day releases, and those titles have since been removed from the list of Cure releases included on that Universal Music site. But the Acoustic Hits vinyl release is listed for pre-order on Amazon’s Italian site.
The Cure issued Greatest Hits as a final obligation to Fiction Records, collecting 16 tracks spanning 1979 to 1997, and adding two new songs (“Cut Here” and “Just Say Yes”). As a bonus, Robert Smith and Co. recorded acoustic versions of all 18 songs, enlisting former drummer Boris Williams to play percussion.
